Paste text or enter a word count to estimate how long it'll take to read at your chosen speed. Default 250 WPM is a typical adult silent-reading pace; pick 150 for spoken/podcast pacing or 300+ for skimming.
How to use
- Paste the text you want to estimate. The calculator counts words automatically (whitespace-split, ignoring extra spacing).
- Adjust the words-per-minute (WPM) speed. Common targets:
- 150 WPM โ comfortable spoken / podcast pace
- 250 WPM โ average silent reading (default)
- 400 WPM โ skimming / fast reading
- Click Estimate. Both reading time and a separate spoken-time estimate (at 150 WPM) are shown.
Most blog platforms use 200โ250 WPM. For audio scripts (podcasts, voiceovers, talks), use 130โ160 WPM โ slow enough to be clearly understood out loud.
